MMA Architects is a multi-sector architectural firm with expertise in retail, mixed-use development, commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, hospitality, and residential design. While our work spans a wide range of markets, this opportunity is within our growing Retail Studio, where we support some of the nation's largest retail brands through every phase of project delivery.

Based in our Neptune, New Jersey office, you'll lead projects ranging from ground-up stores and major expansions to remodels, tenant improvements, and prototype rollouts across the United States. You'll work closely with clients, consultants, and an experienced internal team to deliver high-quality projects on schedule while building lasting client relationships.

If you're looking for a position where you'll have real ownership, direct client interaction, and opportunities to grow into senior leadership, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do

  • Manage multiple commercial retail projects through every phase of design and construction.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, contractors, and internal project teams.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and project deliverables.
  • Lead consultant coordination meetings and oversee multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Guide projects through entitlement, permitting, and construction administration.
  • Review construction documents for quality, coordination, and completeness.
  • Mentor architects and designers while helping develop future project leaders.
  • Identify project risks early and develop practical solutions that keep projects moving.
  • Build long-term client relationships through responsiveness, communication, and technical expertise.
  • Help improve project delivery processes and contribute to the continued growth of MMA's Retail Studio.

Who You Are

You're a leader who enjoys bringing people together to solve problems.

You communicate clearly, stay organized under pressure, and know how to balance client expectations, consultant coordination, and project schedules. You take ownership of your projects, support your team, and build trust through accountability and follow-through.

What We're Looking For

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
  • 7–15 years of architectural project management experience.
  • Architectural registration preferred but not required.
  • Experience managing commercial retail projects is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with national retail programs, prototype-based projects, or multi-site rollouts is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

  • Strong proficiency in Revit.
  • Thorough understanding of construction documentation and consultant coordination.
  • Knowledge of commercial building systems, building codes, accessibility requirements, and permitting processes.
  • Experience with construction administration and resolving field issues.

Professional Skills

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary consultant teams.
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior staff.
  • Strong client relationship and problem-solving skills.

Success in This Role

Within your first year, you will:

  • Successfully manage multiple national retail projects simultaneously.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients and consultant teams.
  • Deliver projects that meet schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
  • Mentor younger architects and designers within the Retail Studio.
  • Help strengthen project management processes and contribute to the continued growth of the Retail Studio.

Within our Retail Studio, you'll work on projects for nationally recognized brands alongside experienced architects, dedicated production staff, an in-house permitting department, and long-standing consultant partners. Our team manages projects in nearly every state, giving you the opportunity to lead complex projects across a wide range of jurisdictions while building long-term client relationships.

We're also investing in the future of architecture through Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), AI-assisted workflows, and advanced digital technologies. You'll have the opportunity to influence how projects are delivered while helping shape the continued growth of our Retail Studio.
