Job Description

ARCHITECTURAL MANAGER

OUTSTANDING CAREER + LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY

This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced residential architect who loves leading people, managing workflow and bringing teams together.

We are honored to be recruiting for an established, high-integrity Chicagoland residential design-build firm seeking an experienced Architectural Manager to help lead its internal Architecture Department.

In this role, you will work directly with the Director of Architecture, serving as a key leader within a busy, collaborative Architecture Department supporting residential remodeling projects throughout Chicagoland.

This is not a traditional production architect role, and there are no sales or business development responsibilities.

We are seeking a talented architect who brings strong technical knowledge, enjoys mentoring and managing others, and is ready for an opportunity with meaningful leadership responsibility and long-term career growth.

This is an in-office position located in the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois.

Please do not contact our client employer directly.

All inquiries are to be directed to Wendy Cohen, PowerHouse Recruiting.

Please be prepared to provide a portfolio of your residential architectural work.

Job Responsibilities

As Architectural Manager, you will lead the day-to-day operations, people and workflow of the Architecture Department.

  • Lead, support and mentor a team of architectural design professionals within a highly collaborative company culture.
  • Manage the daily workflow of a busy department, overseeing quality, assignments, priorities, schedules and deadlines while working in unison with Sales and Construction teams.
  • Coordinate architectural resources and project delivery across more than 200 residential remodeling projects annually.
  • Review architectural drawings and construction documents for accuracy, quality and completeness.
  • Provide architectural and structural review and step into project work when your expertise is needed.
  • Work closely with the Director of Architecture on technical, structural and big-picture architectural matters, including select project work.
  • Lead and manage the flow of information and communication among Architecture, Interior Design, Sales, Construction and leadership teams.
  • Assist with permit information, municipal requirements, building codes and coordination with local building departments.
  • Help improve department processes, systems and efficiencies while contributing to overall company performance.
  • Create accountability while motivating, training and developing others within a team-oriented environment.
  • Help develop and mentor the next generation of talent within the organization.

Requirements

Professional background of 12+ years of residential architectural experience, preferably with demonstrated project success in residential remodeling.

  • Professional degree in Architecture or related field.
  • Architecture license highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of architectural drawings, construction documents and residential construction processes from concept through completion.
  • Strong AutoCAD skills, including the ability to review, correct and approve architectural and structural drawings.
  • Strong computer and software skills, including Microsoft 365, OneDrive and CRM platforms.
  • Experience managing or mentoring architects, designers or other professional team members.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, permitting and municipal approval processes.

Skills for Success

We are looking for more than a talented architect. The right candidate is a leader and communicator looking to join a team and find their long-term career home.

  • Enjoys working with different personalities and excels at helping people do their best work.
  • A strong, approachable leader who genuinely enjoys managing and mentoring people.
  • Confident communicating with clients, architects, designers, sales professionals, construction teams, leadership and municipal officials.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented while comfortable creating accountability.
  • Highly proactive, thinking ahead and not waiting for information to come to you.
  • Technically strong, with the ability to earn the respect of an experienced architectural team.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume residential design-build environment.
  • Excited about continued professional growth and increasing leadership responsibility.

Why This Opportunity Is Different - Exceptional Benefits

Join an established, highly respected residential design-build company with a strong reputation, a long history in Chicagoland and an employee-focused culture .

Unlike running your own architecture practice or working within a traditional architecture firm, your focus here will be design and architecture, people and leadership, not selling . There is no business development requirement and no expectation to bring in clients.

Instead, you will have the opportunity to work directly with an experienced Director of Architecture, lead a talented team and play an important role in the continued growth and evolution of the department.

This is a full-time leadership position with significant long-term career growth potential.

  • Excellent compensation package, based on experience
  • Annual bonus opportunity with company profitability
  • Employee benefits package and PTO
  • Established and respected Chicagoland residential design-build company
  • Leadership role within a collaborative Architecture Department
  • No sales or business development responsibilities
  • Opportunity to impact more than 200 residential remodeling projects annually
  • Lead, mentor and develop architectural talent
  • Contribute to a strong, employee-focused company culture
  • Long-term professional and leadership growth opportunity

We are looking forward to meeting you! If you are an experienced residential architect ready to combine your architectural expertise with leadership, kindly reach out to Wendy Cohen, CEO, PowerHouse Recruiting today.
